Horseback Riding and Wine-Tasting in Tuscany
Visiting the Tuscan region of Italy anytime soon? I highly, HIGHLY recommend visiting the Tenuta Torciano Winery in San Gimignano for a horseback ride through the vineyard and wine tasting! This was an experience of a lifetime. I am still in shock at how breathtaking the vineyard was and how delicious the wine and food were.
My roommates and I lucked out as we were the only four on the trail ride. Our trail guide was a local Italian who didn’t speak any english which made me feel like we finally left the touristy sections of Italy. During the trail ride, we pulled our horses over to the grape vines and grabbed some grapes to eat which was surreal. They were delicious and as fresh as you can get!
This specific vineyard has been in the same family for fourteen generations. Basically everyone working at the vineyard was related which was really incredible to see and extremely different from what we normally see in the US. The wine tasting also included four course meal.
We were taught the proper way to pick up and hold a wine glass. We were also taught the proper way to smell the wine so we can really get a sense of the main flavors! With the first couple glasses of wine, we were given bread with their homemade olive oil, some provolone cheese, a side salad with their homemade balsamic, and slices of salami. Next, we were given a bean and bread soup and after that a lasagna. The lasagna was topped with the vineyards homemade white truffle olive oil which made this meal the best meal I have ever had. Truffles are a delicacy in Italy and the white truffle olive oil was like nothing I’ve ever had before. After this we were served a dessert wine with biscotti.
You will not regret planning this day trip 🙂
